Premier League 2018-19 Review

WOW! That's the only word i can say about this year's PL season. Unbelievably spectacular. From the 1st game-week to the 38th, it did not stopped entertaining us with it's mouth-watering encounters.

As Peter Drury once said in a match- "This is the league we want to watch". It's not like la-liga or Serie A or Bundesliga where only 2 or 3 teams fight for the title. In here, in PL, the most exciting league in the world, 6 teams fight for the title. Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Man Utd or the big six. This season of PL has shown to the world why it is the toughest and the most challenging league in the world with both Champions League and Europa League finalists are PL teams.

Now that's enough with the appreciation of this league. Let's move on to its review.

The side which impressed the most were Wolverhampton Wanderers aka Wolves. Promoted to the top flight only this season, they now have qualified for Europe. The journey has been truly amazing for them. The club chiefs spent money in the transfer market quite brilliantly. For me  Raul Jiminez and Ruben Neves were standout players and I am pretty sure all the big teams from Europe are keeping close eye on them.

Now let's move on to my favorite team, Chelsea.
Well a third place finish and a Europa League title is pretty good for Chelsea and Sarri who is in his first year of management with Chelsea. But still there has been a recent speculation that he is on his way to Juventus. What should clearly be understood by Chelsea board that backing a coach even if he doesn't deliver any trophies is not a bad idea. Just look at Klopp's Liverpool. It took him 4 years to win a trophy at Liverpool. They were nothing in 2015 when Klopp arrived. But now look at them. With the 2018-19 CL trophy they have made themselves a European force again. So I think they should stick with Sarri cause he is a gem of coach.

WE WILL NEVER WALK ALONE. You all know what's coming next. Liverpool. Probably the most improved team since the past 4 years. They have again become a giant. With Salah, Firmino and Mane they boast one of the most lethal front three. With the energy of Milner, leadership of Henderson and versatility of Keita they have an amazing midfield. And the defence, once their weakest link is now their strongest. They truly have an amazing team. They have showcased their superiority by winning the Champions League after making 2nd final in a row.

Now it's the turn of the reigning defending PL champions Man City (yeah thanks Paul Heyman for the lines) . They have shown that if money is well spent it can reap rewards unlike PSG of course.
Pep has surely built a team of generations. With 2 back to back PL titles, they have surely set a bar for the rest of the teams. It looks like now 100 points out of possible 114 is needed to win the PL, unlike, the old days when 80-85 points were enough. This season has truly showcased the superiority of Man City and Liverpool over other big 6 teams.

Now let's talk about another top 6 club who once were a dominant force but after the departure of a manager they truly lost their identity. I think you may have already guessed it. That's right it is Manchester United. Despite spending a lot of money by different managers having different styles they still haven't got their mojo back. This season the focal point of discussion has been their most costliest player and world cup winner Paul Pogba. His relationship with Ole has been of ups and downs but now it seems that he will be sold. This summer is very crucial for Ole as he has a huge task of rebuilding the ageing and unfit squad. It still remains to be seen whether he will be at the helm next season.

The manager linked with Man Utd is mauricio pochettino. The Argentine has shown why he is regarded as one of the best managers. Despite not buying any players in the transfer market they finished 4th in PL and reached CL finals.

According to me this PL season has been very competitive for all the teams other than Man City and Liverpool. These 2 teams look way ahead of the pack. I am eagerly waiting for the next season so as to see whether other teams can bridge the gap between them and MCI and LIV.
