Cricket World Cup 2019: How does it look?

It is only few days until ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 begins. A lot has happened in the world of cricket since the year 2015 World Cup, starting with the downfall of the reigning champions, Australia. After the 2015 World Cup they struggled but now if you see them, they are back to being their best. With the series win against India in India, Australia is surely ringing the bells of the cricket pundits for their contender-ship for the World Cup 2019. Another thing that has happened since the last World Cup is the entry of another country from the South East Asia i.e. Afghanistan who have made it to the World Cup 2019 squad with their amazing spinners like Rashid Khan and Mohd. Nabi.

New Zealand also has recently announced their team for the world cup by becoming the first of the 10 teams to do so. It is no surprise that NZ has chosen experience over youth, with Williamson as their captain and iconic players like Ross Taylor and Guptill, making to the final squad.

It is also the last World Cup for many legendary players like Dhoni, Gayle and Tahir who have already crossed their prime age, though there is no doubt that they are still topping the charts with their game. It will be hard to see them go.

The most shocking news which I came across was that of AB de Villiers' retirement from cricket just when the South Africa team were starting to look good. Hopefully, he reconsiders his decision and delights the audience with his presence.

What I feel

  • My favourites for the semifinals spot are: India, Australia and England.
  • New Zealand appears to be the dark horse of World Cup 2019. But still I feel fourth spot will be a bit tricky and I think it can be either South Africa or New Zealand.
In fact, World Cup 2019 appears like a Déjà vu of 2013 Champions Trophy with India and England making it to the final.

I hope India wins which goes without saying. But, looking at the current form, England looks really good and ahead of all.
